Three new websites for Liskeard

Liskeard Town Council and Town Team have joined forces to fund the development of three brand new, linked websites to show off the best of Liskeard.

Launching at the end of April, they will work on all devices – PCs, tablets and mobile phones – and each will cater for different audiences.

Your Liskeard – will showcase Liskeard’s independent shops, cafes and markets with the aim of increasing high-street footfall and encouraging business relocation. Through video and professional photography it will give voice to the community, offering a sense of place and a history to be proud of. Business owners will be able to update their own pages on the site and entice customers with special promotions.

Visit Liskeard – will be the new Town Information Centre website, with podcasts about Liskeard’s heritage, a big events calendar, walking trails, maps, accommodation available and a section on things to do in and around town. They’ll be promoting Liskeard as a place to stay and a launchpad for discovering the rest of Cornwall.

Liskeard Council – will hold all the main information about your local councillors, meetings and services information. The site’s primary aim will be to keep you informed about Council work and future plans.

Rachel Brooks, who is on the Town Council and Town Team and chaired the selection panel said: ‘We set out to find website designers who would help both organisations project an attractive and unique identity for Liskeard online. We had a rigorous selection process which considered 19 applicants. Voice Group and Studio Wallop beat off stiff competition to win. We chose them unanimously and are very pleased that the best candidates turned out to be from Liskeard.’

Web design agency, Voice Group, who won Best Creative Project at The 2013 Cornwall Hub Awards for their Looe Music Festival website and branding, have been based in Liskeard since 2011. Their copywriter, Jim Rickards, explained the aims of the project: ‘We’re creating a positive, forward-looking showcase for Liskeard, highlighting its unique shops, innovative businesses and central place between the moors and the sea. With strong messaging, fresh design and Studio Wallop’s memorable videos & photos all working together we can help the town build an online presence that will keep residents and visitors alike informed, entertained and inspired to act. Crucially for business, these sites will work beautifully on mobiles and tablets, which now account for about 40% of all internet traffic.’

Jane Pascoe, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, said: ‘We’re delighted that the Town Council and Town Team are working together to develop websites to promote the town. It’s great news that all local businesses will initially have a free entry. It’s a real opportunity to get across all that Liskeard has to offer.’

This positive sentiment was echoed by the Chair of Liskeard Traders Association and owner of Liskeard Carpets, Dean Petvin-Moore. ‘After looking at the branding and early designs, as a business in the town, it’s great to see the development of such a modern, bright and easy-to-use website. It is clear and concise in every way. I would hope that many locals and visitors will see what the historical stannery town of Liskeard has to offer. With cycle routes, heritage walks and fantastic independent shops and cafes, Liskeard really does have it all! The website looks like it will deliver on every level so let’s use it.’


As part of the build, The Town Information Centre are keen to ensure that their calendar of events and list of organisations and clubs is accurate.
